Help us build a fairer, more literate future.

At Literacy Aid UK, volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. From packing donated books and supporting community events, to helping run our Diverse Voices Libraries and Literacy Surgery Hubs, every hour you give makes a real difference.

We welcome people from all walks of life – whether you’re a student, retiree, book lover, or someone with lived experience of the barriers we aim to break down. If you share our belief in the power of words and the importance of inclusive access to learning, there’s a place for you here.

Ways You Can Help:

– Support community book collections, packing and sorting donations
– Help set up and maintain pop-up libraries or Literacy Surgery Hubs
– Assist with one-to-one reading or literacy support (training provided)
– Use your creative, digital, or organisational skills to boost our outreach
– Take part in our events, vintage book fairs, or school outreach visits
– Offer behind-the-scenes help with admin, photography, or social media

What You’ll Get Out of It:

– The chance to make a meaningful impact in underserved communities
– New skills and experience for your CV or personal development
– A supportive, flexible environment with likeminded people
– References for future employment or study
– Reimbursement of reasonable travel costs

Volunteer roles are flexible and can work around your schedule. Whether you have two hours a week or just want to help on an occasional basis, we’d love to hear from you.

Interested?
Email us at hello@literacyaiduk.co.uk and let us know a little about yourself, what you’re interested in, and when you might be available. We’ll get back to you for a quick informal chat and see what might be the best fit.

Together, we can open up new chapters for people who’ve been left out of the story.
